Nissan India has finally dropped a teaser for the much-anticipated X-Trail SUV. The X-Trail was first showcased alongside the Juke and Qashqai back in 2022, and now it’s gearing up to hit Indian roads.
The teaser offers a glimpse of the X-Trail’s design, revealing details like the bold front grille, sharp LED daytime running lights, lower bumper-mounted headlights, side body cladding, and a shark fin antenna.
While official confirmation is pending, the X-Trail will likely be offered in both 5-seater and 7-seater configurations, catering to a wider range of buyer needs.
The X-Trail will be available with tech-savvy driving experience. Anticipate features like a three-zone climate control system, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, an electric tailgate, a push-button start with keyless entry, and an electronic parking brake.
The fourth-generation X-Trail is built on Renault-Nissan’s new CMF-C platform, Globally, the X-Trail boasts a variety of engine options, including hybrid variants. However, for the Indian market, initial reports suggest a sole 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine churning out 201 PS and 305 Nm of torque. This engine will likely be paired with a CVT transmission and offered in both front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations. The absence of a hybrid option is likely due to cost considerations, as government policies can significantly inflate the price of CBU hybrid cars in India.
Nissan is yet to reveal official pricing for the X-Trail. However, estimates suggest a starting range between ₹35-₹40 lakh (ex-showroom). This premium positioning is a result of the X-Trail being imported as a completely built unit (CBU). The lack of a hybrid option further contributes to the expected higher price point.
When launched, the X-Trail will vie for position in a competitive segment. It will face established players like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan, and Jeep Meridian. Competitive pricing could also see it enter the fray with the Jeep Compass and Hyundai Tucson.
